Udayan Borthakur is a wildlife biologist, photographer and filmmaker working with Aaranyak since 2008 where he has established its inhouse Wildlife Genetic Laboratory in 2008. He has 18 years of experience in the field of ecological and population genetic research and have worked previously in places like University of Chicago, USA, Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun and Bombay Natural History Society. He has worked on ecology and population genetics of several species such as Greater one-horned rhino and Royal Bengal tiger in India, Javan and Sumatran rhinos in Indonesia, White-bellied Heron and snow leopards in Bhutan etc. He has keen interest in habitat expansion and corridor restoration of critical wildlife habitats in northeast India. He is a member of IUCN SSC Asian Rhino Specialist Group and IUCN SSC Heron Specialist Group.

Udayan Borthakur is an avid wildlife photographer and his photography work can be seen in several magazines, books and media outlets of national and international repute. He is the official Wildlife Photography Mentor of Nikon School India and a member of Nikon Professional Services. Udayan is also into wildlife filmmaking and have produced several documentary films on wildlife and their habitat in northeast India.
