I work as a Biodiversity Coordinator at Sahjeevan, a national NGO based in Kutch where I anchor the biodiversity conservation agenda in pastoral landscapes, leading research and conservation in grassland ecosystems. Having obtained an interdisciplinary master’s (MSc) degree in Ecology and Environment Studies from Nalanda University in 2017 and an undergraduate degree in Botany, my work engages with a range of stakeholders to improve conservation outcomes for this particular system, with wider implications for conservation outside protected area regimes. I am interested in delving deep into the relationship between pastoralists’ social and ecological histories and their open natural ecosystems in India, mainly focusing on traditional values, changes in biodiversity, ecological knowledge, rights over resources, and uncertainties.
