I am a researcher currently engaged in the restoration of mangroves in the Indian Sunderbans, a vital ecosystem known for its rich biodiversity and ecological significance. My primary focus is to explore the intricate relationship between bacteria and mangroves, unraveling the complex interactions that support the health and resilience of these coastal ecosystems. Through my work, I aim to contribute to sustainable conservation efforts and enhance our understanding of how microbial communities influence mangrove growth and restoration.

I am currently working in the western part of the Indian Sundarbans, an area known for its unique ecosystem and significant mangrove forests, and which has been heavily impacted by degradation. Our project in this region adopts a multi-species restoration strategy to effectively combat biodiversity loss. Our planting strategy is carefully designed according to the salinity gradient of the area, which is crucial for the survival of the species we choose. We also study the stress tolerance levels of these species to ensure they are well-suited for the specific conditions of the Sundarbans.

Seeds are collected from pristine mangrove forests and we sometimes collaborate with the forest department for additional resources. Given that the soil in this region is influenced by various biotic and abiotic pressures, we adopt a site-specific approach for restoration, tailoring our efforts to the unique challenges presented by the environment.
